5.7 Power functions and models
Unit 5 · Rational exponents and radical functions
Ideas in this lesson
Recognize a power function
A power function has a constant coefficient times a single power of the input. Distinguish this from an exponential function.
Interpret a power-function graph
Use the exponent, coefficient and stated domain to interpret the shape, intercepts and behavior of a power function.
Construct a power model
When the exponent is known, substitute a supplied input-output pair to find the constant coefficient.
Apply and interpret a model
Use a power model with its contextual domain, retain appropriate units, and check whether the answer is meaningful.
