7.2 Logarithms and inverse functions
Unit 7 · Exponential and logarithmic functions
Ideas in this lesson
Convert between forms
A logarithm is an exponent: the base raised to the logarithm equals its positive argument.
Evaluate logarithms
Find the exponent that produces the argument from the given positive base other than one.
Logarithmic asymptotes
A shifted logarithm has a vertical asymptote where its argument approaches zero from the permitted side.
Natural logarithms
The natural logarithm has base e and is the inverse of the natural exponential.
Logarithmic domains and graphs
Require a positive argument; a horizontal shift locates the vertical asymptote.
